The 25th annual Stihl Tour des Trees, held July 30-Aug. 5 in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., was a success! Sixty-six riders — three of them participants in the original Tour in 1992 — and their support team completed 587 miles while sharing the Tree Fund mission with people all across the Capital Region.
Participants planted 11 trees (six of them liberty trees) and distributed dozens of books about trees to local schoolchildren through the Professor Pricklethorn program, which allows students to see beyond the bark and appreciate trees in a much different light. Rider fundraising has reached the goal of raising $310,000 and is currently at more than $321k as of 9/25/17! One hundred percent of this amount will go to research, education or community engagement grants or endowed funds, as Tree Fund partners defrayed all Tour expenses.
This year’s top three Stihl Tour des Trees fundraisers were Randy Miller with $16,250; Dick Rideout with $13,770; and Steve Geist with $7,785. Additionally, Team Ohio claimed the title of the #1 fundraising team, raising $42,165 for Tree Fund. Fundraising for the Silver Anniversary Tour continues through December 31, 2017; if you like to contribute you can do so online at stihltourdestrees.org.
