Exmark continued its longstanding tradition of giving back to the community Tuesday when the company presented two organizations with brand new mowers. Two 60-inch Lazer mowers valued at $10,000 were donated to the Beatrice Baseball Boosters and the city of Fairbury.
Judy Altmaier, Exmark general manager, said annually donating multiple mowers to area organizations is one of many ways the company gives back. “We’re all encouraged to give back at least 20 hours during work time to go volunteer for projects that are near and dear to our hearts,” she said. “Every year we get to give away top-of-the-line mowers. We had lots of requests and had to choose the ones we think best fit our goals and our missions. Besides giving money, we have people who give their time and their energy to be involved in our communities.”
Laura Bedlan, Fairbury assistant street superintendent, said the mower donated to Fairbury will help continue ongoing beautification projects in the Jefferson County city. “It’s going to be used for both of our parks,” she said. “The city of Fairbury has a pretty aggressive beautification project going on right now. We’re doing a lot of nuisance abatements. We’re also paying attention to our right of ways. We have 80-plus acres that we cover. These guys are mowing almost daily all summer.”
Ron Cullison, president of the Beatrice Baseball Boosters, said the organization is currently outsourcing its mowing services, and the nonprofit group will greatly benefit from having its own mower once again. “Fourteen years ago, Exmark donated a mower to us and it served our purposes well for 14 years,” he said. “Unfortunately, it conked out on us at the beginning of this summer so we’ve actually had to pay somebody to come in and mow the ballpark, which isn’t very economical for a nonprofit organization.”
The mower will be the latest addition to Christensen Field, which has been a staple of the community since the first game was played there in 1974.
