The 2015 Sta-Bil National Lawn Mower Racing Series season wrapped up in late September at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, as the 23rd season of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association saw significant growth as “The Poor Man’s NASCAR” continued to mow and grow.
Although a rain-out of the annual Sta-Bil 360 Performance Finals, which determines the season points champions put a damper on the final weekend of the season, 2015 Season Points Champions were announced, new members were inducted into the National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame, Honorary Awards were presented, and the annual Racer Banquet was held in the prestigious Speedway Club in Smith Tower at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
2015 season highlights included:
· The on-track wedding of lawn mower racers Ivy Coy and Alex Stella
· Racing at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Spring Auto Fair
· An award-wining event with the City of Foley, Ala. Sports Tourism Council
· Live streaming on fanschoice.tv in cooperation with NASCAR Productions
· Induction of the Mikula Family of Sparta, Mich. into the Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame to recognize their charity race for Huntington’s disease research along with the husband-and-wife racing team of Janet and Jim Witt
· Expansion into a Western Mower World Series featuring racers from California, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia
· Ongoing screenings of the feature film: “On Your Mark, Get Set, Mow: A Tale of Hope, Redemption and Lawn Mower Racing”
Plans are underway for the 2016 racing season and for the USLMRA 25th Anniversary in 2017.
