Spring Season Taking Off
MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Dealers around the country are gearing up for another busy spring season, which at press time was highly variable as usual, with an April snowstorm churning through the Midwest and Northeast, leaving power outages, storm damage and lots of chain saw work in its wake.
Here in the Deep South around PET headquarters, despite the current cold snap from the blizzard up North, mow and blow season is in full go mode, with trailers full of equipment filling the residential areas and flying by like clouds of pollen from the oak trees.
“We’re booming, and we can’t sit still,” says Chad Sasser, Manager at Lewis Lawn Equipment in Montgomery, Ala., the largest Exmark dealer in the state, and a major sales and service dealership in the overall tri-county market surrounding Montgomery that also carries Toro, Stihl, Echo and Shindaiwa.
The dealership has made no major moves going into 2024, Sasser says. The business added a technician late in 2023 and added a Ybravo walk-behind mower offering as a new line and lower cost option.
This year, by mid February the weather had warmed, the pollen started flying and customers began frequenting the business regularly. Already, at the first of April, the service department is 10 days out on turnaround.

A Sprig of Hope
I feel like spring, even more so than Christmastime and the end of the year, is about new beginnings. It is no longer cold (at least in my part of the country); flowers are blooming, and personally I’m just in a better mood. And let’s face it, when mama’s in a good mood, the house is in a good mood—because I am a flower and sun person. I have a dad who gardens and takes a lot of pride in the way his lawn looks. Always has, and now at 70something, he always will, I think it is fair to say.
