Fred Whyte, President of Stihl, Inc., was honored by his peers at the Virginia Manufacturers Assn. (VMA). Whyte received the Frank Armstrong III Service Award for his contributions to the Virginia manufacturing sector and association.
During Whyte’s tenure, Stihl has led numerous initiatives that improved the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector. His leadership also generated innovative workforce development programs. In particular, Fred Whyte was instrumental in eliminating the machinery and tools tax in Virginia Beach.
Whyte is an industry leader in robotics and automation technology. He provided an incubator for the development of the Dream It. Do It. Virginia summer camp. The camp continues to serve parents, teachers and students statewide.
Fred Whyte, President of Stihl, will retire at the end of 2015 after 44 plus years with Stihl.
