Horticulture and landscape students who recently attended the 38th annual Professional Landscape Network (PLANET) Student Career Days learned more about environmentally friendly business practices from a workshop sponsored by The Toro Company. The environmental sustainability workshop presented by Toro’s chief agronomist, Dr. Van Cline, focused on the need for efficient use of resources and technology solutions that allow landscape professionals to promote environmental sustainability in their business practices. He advised the students that it’s critical to adopt a personal philosophy of sustainability in their professional and personal lives and be as absolutely efficient as possible in the use of resources (water, nutrients, fuels, etc.) in managing outdoor landscapes.
“The students at PLANET Student Career Days represent the future of the green industry,” explains Chris Hannan, marketing manager for Toro. “This is an important event that helps shape tomorrow’s landscape professionals, and we were honored to support it. The workshop was a great opportunity to reach out and get students thinking about how their future businesses can be more environmentally friendly.”
In addition to the workshop, Toro was a major sponsor for the Student Career Days event and is a Platinum Ambassador for PLANET’s Academic Excellence Foundation (AEF), awarding an annual scholarship to a PLANET student. Eric Sabin of Colorado State University was this year’s scholarship recipient.
