Yamaha officials recently announced that the company has completed its transfer of production of all-terrain vehicles from facilities in Japan to Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America (YMMC) in Newnan, Ga.–adding hundreds of jobs. The transfer was first announced in February of 2010.
Yamaha has also opened a second plant in Newnan dedicated to the production of new side-by-side products including the new Viking, an all-terrain vehicle that can accommodate three persons.
Already the largest employer in Newnan, YMMC will add 100 jobs to support the Viking production at Plant 2 in 2013. The company currently employs 1,250 people in Newnan, up from 1,100 in 2011. The company has added 200 jobs in Georgia between the Newnan plant and its corporate offices in Kennesaw.
